Wicca 101: Intro to Wicca

13 week online course – 9 weeks of lecture, with time for discussion, guest speakers, and outside reading

Hi, I’m Rev Janet Callahan. I’ve been studying for more than 2 decades now, and I’m currently the high priestess of Spiral Moon Family Circle.  I’ve trained in 3 different traditions over the years, along with other in-person and online coursework, and a ton of reading.

I’ve noticed a lot of local shops aren’t hosting classes anymore, and that’s a shame. Back when I first got started, those classes were a huge source of info. They were my first sources of information, and they helped me find my way to other teachers.

The internet is a wondrous place though – an infinite library and a way of talking to people over a great distance, and I want to put that to use.

This introductory class will get you on your way to learning everything you want to know, point you in the direction of traditions you may not have considered, and give you a great bibliography to start reading on your own.

Class starts with the facebook group going live January 1st 2019, with lectures on Thursday nights starting at 8 pm, and will run until 9:30 or 10:00 pm most Thursdays. Lectures will be recorded, so if you miss one you have time to catch up.  The group will stay open until end of the day, March 31, 2019.

Our syllabus includes:
Definitions – What is Wicca? What is witchcraft? What is Paganism? What else is out there, Immanent divinity, polytheism, pantheism, etc.
History – where did Wicca come from, people of note
Gods and Goddesses – Lord and Lady, pantheons, “duality,” the nature of mythology and Truth
Ethics – karma, sin, 3-fold law, rede
Wheel of the Year – Sabbats, their relationship to the calendar and the physical world, Esbats, Moon phases
Magic and Ritual – altars, shrines, spells, tools
Elements and other correspondences – stones, colors, herbs, planets
Divination – types, methods, etc
Daily life – blessings, prayers, public events, local groups
