Rupert's Tales Samhain-Ostara

Rupert’s Tales: The Wheel of the Year Beltane, Litha, Lammas, Mabon

and

Rupert’s Tales: The Wheel of the Year Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, Ostara

by Kyrja, illustrated by Tonia Bennington Osborn

These two books feature Rupert, a small rabbit, learning about the celebrations that humans have in his forest several times a year. The first features Beltane, Litha, Lammas, and Mabon. The second features Samhain, Yule, Imbolc, and Ostara.

Each story is told in a series of rhyming couplets, and talks about a specific holiday. Often Rupert meets God or Goddess in an unexpected form while learning about the human’s celebrations.

The illustrations are quite lovely, showing the scenes that Rupert sees, and showing Rupert too.

My two year old will sit through any book but found these stories more interesting than Cookie Monster on the TV. My five year old avoids all books, but still pays attention from the other side of the room, with side-long glances. So, overall we like these books. There’s an activity book that I’ll be reviewing at a later date, and I’ve heard there are more books to come.

Kyrja has a fairly active facebook page and website for the “Friends of Rupert” – and a TV show!
